Hotel le Domaine aux Quat'Saisons

  • The Languedoc is in Southern Europe and borders  the Mediterranean; sea  hence there is lots of sun and dry weather all year round and the summer is hot.

  • The winter climate in the westerly parts of northern Europe such as Ireland and the UK is warmed by warm water from the South, the Gulf Stream,  so despite the southerly aspect of the Languedoc average minimum temperatures in winter are as a low as they are in the UK

Languedoc is hot in summer

Languedoc Roussillon's temperatures vary more widely than the UK's - with far higher maximums, especially in summer, but minimums that are, in January and February, just as cold. Summer in the Languedoc reaches the mid-30's in July.  May, June and September offer the best weather. The water is warm enough to swim in from May to September.

Languedoc is very sunny and dry

Languedoc Roussillon is much sunnier than the UK. Even as temperatures drop to freezing in February - you don't have to suffer that awful low grey ceiling of cloud that hangs over Northern Europe for most of the winter.  Rainfall is also lower in Languedoc Roussillon - especially in summer - where the sun can beat down for weeks on end without a drop of rain. Autumn, October and November, can have sudden, torrential rain storms that swell the rivers and often cause flooding. Thankfully, the sunshine usually returns after 2-3 days even after the heaviest downpours.
